Post Doctoral Research
ICMR, with its 27 state-of-the-art Institutes/Centers, is amongst the foremost research organizations in the field of Bio Medical Sciences. Over the years, the ICMR has helped in making a scientific milieu in India, creating and nurturing talent in many disciplines such as communicable and non communicable diseases, basic medical sciences, reproductive health including nutrition, human resource developments etc.
ICMR PDF Scheme is being instituted to foster high quality research opportunities to promising fresh Ph.D./ MD/MS holders in the cutting edge areas of basic science, communicable and non communicable diseases, and reproductive health including nutrition at ICMR Institutes /Centers. Special focus will be on fundamental research in areas of science and other priority areas identified by ICMR from time to time. ICMR intends to offer fifty (50) such fellowships every year for working in ICMR Institutes/Centers with state-of-art R&D facilities. These fellowships will be allocated by Director General, ICMR, depending upon the needs of the ICMR Institute/Centre.

ICMR now invites applications for “ICMR Centenary-Post Doctoral Fellowship” from the fresh PH.D./MD/MS within three years of completing their PH.D./MD/MS degree (awarded) as on the last date of the application and also those who have received their provisional PH.D./MD/MS degree.
The applications may be submitted in the format provided with all enclosures as listed in the detailed guideline below and as per the eligibility criteria (only hard copy) w.e.f. 1st February, 2023 to 28th February, 2023 (by 05:30pm) to Sh. Kishor Toppo, TO-C at R. no. 423, 3rd floor, ICMR Hqrs. New Delhi. For any queries pl. call on Extn. no. 369 or 349.
Late and incomplete applications will not be considered further.
1. Eligibility
- 1.1ICMR PDF is open to Indian nationals only
- 1.2Fresh Ph.D. within three years of completing their Ph.D. degree (awarded) as on the last date of the application and also those who have received their provisional doctorate degree can apply. A copy of degree is to be submitted – on/before the last date of application form.
- 1.3The post-doctoral proposed research work should be the continuation of the Ph.D.research work. If not, then the application will not be considered.
- 1.4PDF Guide should have the minimum designation of Scientist-C grade.
- Note: Result notification/certificate or viva-voce/thesis submitted notification will not be considered
2. Maximum Age Limit
- 2.132 years, relaxable up to 5 years in case of SC/ST/OBC/PH and women candidates, as on the last date of application.
- 2.2For deserving candidates age can be relaxed maximum up to three years based on previous work experience, publications/patents, awards etc. along with the request by sponsoring Director/Director-in-Charge.
- 2.3Director General, ICMR may consider and relax on the recommendation of the screening committee.
3. Remuneration
- 3.1ICMR PDFs will be paid a consolidated fellowship of Rs. 65,000/- per month w.e.f. 31-07-2020 (Order No. 1/2/2020-Admin-II, Dated, 31-07-2020) plus House Rent Allowance (HRA) as per Govt. of India rule, Non Practicing allowance (NPA) as admissible and a contingency grant of Rs. 3.0 lakhs per annum.
- 3.225% of the contingency grant can be used for travel including per diem expenses (only for national travel, related to ICMR-PDF proposed research work only).
4. Mode of Selection
- 4.1Selection of the post-doctoral fellow will be made through a personal discussion/interview of short listed candidates by a selection committee constituted by the DG, ICMR based on their research experience, publications, citations and impact factor.
- 4.2The place of the interview will be ICMR Hqrs. New Delhi.
- 4.3Eligible candidates must route their applications through the host institution.
- 4.4Applicants (Indian nationals) coming from abroad may also be considered in absentia, if eligible and found suitable by the Committee.
5. Accommodation and other benefits
- 5.1Accommodation may be provided by the host institution, if available. However, in such cases, HRA will not be paid.
- 5.2ICMR PDFs will be entitled for medical benefits and leaves as per the ICMR rules for JRF/Research Associates.
6. Important Information
- 6.1It is mandatory to submit the plagiarism check report and provisional/original doctorate degree copy and declaration (click for the format) along with the application.
- 6.2The plagiarism check report should be verified by ICMR-Research Integrity Officer (RIO).
- 6.3The guide and director of the host institute should ensure the thorough review of the research proposal before submitting to the ICMR.
- 6.4Fellowship amount will be paid to host institutes/centre every six months including contingency grant.
- 6.5In all matters, the decision of ICMR Competent Authority shall be final.

7. How to apply- Please read the instructions, given above carefully before filling the Application Form (Annexure-I)
- 7.1Applications (hard and soft copy) complete in all respect must reach on or before the closing date.
- 7.2Application must be submitted along with power-point presentation (maximum 5 slides) of the proposal (click for the slide format), research proposal and thesis summary (one page).
- 7.3Application received without the recommendation of the host institute Director/Director-in charge will not be considered.

3. Use additional sheets for the research proposal if required, with relevant headings, inserting proper references.
